Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, During a bit of summer deviation from the regular parish rhythm, we will be working on several targeted projects and planning. We will keep you abreast of detailed developments. First, a committee authorized by the congregation council is at work exploring the feasibility of developing some kind of memorial garden or rest place for cremains on the church property. Fred Gould as convened the group that has already made several field trps to other congregations in the exploration phase of this process. Second, because our congregation is both gifted and challenged by the presence of children, youth, and adults with special needs and abilities, Debbie Burd will be gathering a team of persons to explore how we can be more effective in our hospitality and programming for and with people who have special mental, physical, and emotional needs. Third, I have asked Eric Wendler, who has special expertise in the area of communications, to work with us in doing an audit of our internal and external communication methods. I hope this work will help us with two or three proposals to solidify our efforts to communicate and interpret the mission of the congregation and the wider church. I am truly encouraged by the health of our congregation at this point in time. But the lord reminds us that "to whom much is given, much more is required." In the midst of our world that seems to be spewing and overheating this summer, God calls us all to remember whose we are and in whose mission we are privileged to share. God's peace be with you, Pastor Dan Whitener |
